HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT Activity at all IUK locations was extremely high during 2007, a large number of third party construction contractors continued to work at both sites with a high level of project activity alongside day to day operations. • There was one lost time injury. There was one lost time injury. This resulted from a minor incident when a person pulled a muscle in his shoulder whilst trying to loosen a scaffold fitting. There was no potential for a more serious injury and the injured person was back at work after one days rest. Approximately 600 potential hazards were identified during the period through the practices of safety walkthroughs and audits, near miss reporting and safety observations. These processes empower the workforce to be proactive in the prevention of more serious incidents. They are reviewed by the Health and Safety Manager on a regular basis to identify any recurring trends that can be passed on to our sites. The number of items identified demonstrates the strong safety culture within the company. There were no Health Safety or Environmental incidents or excursions that required regulator notification during the period. Efficient emissions management and monitoring systems are in place and are regularly subject to inspection by Authorities. These systems are expected to ensure compliance during the year ahead. An extensive audit programme was executed to plan. Non conformances are tracked through an action tracking register held centrally to ensure all findings are monitored through to resolution. High levels of safety and discipline based training have continued at IUK sites. To ensure the competence of our staff there continued to be a need for high levels of training to meet ongoing job requirements and new systems and procedures following the new plant construction. Emergency exercises were carried out to plan and co-ordinated with neighbouring operators. A number of emergency exercises have taken place in Bacton, Zeebrugge and London during the year involving co-operation with the local emergency services and operators. 95 people received first aid training in the year from IUK’s own qualified trainers. This includes long term contractors at sites in addition to IUK's own employees. Though we can demonstrate excellent performance we have identified areas of our business where improvements can and will be made in the forthcoming year. We will actively share best practice where possible and ensure the standards we set are consistently high, complacency is not allowed to take hold and we continue to improve our HSES Performance. Opportunities for improvement which will be implemented during 2008 include:
