OFFSHORE PIPELINE

ROUTE

The offshore pipeline lies within the UK and Belgian sectors of the Southern North Sea.

The route leaves Bacton to the south of other pipeline landfalls and passes to the east of the gravel area off Great Yarmouth and a restricted zone further south thence to the southwest of the Belgium/Dutch territorial waters boundary before crossing the Scheur shipping channel to the landfall West of Zeebrugge, a total length of approximately 235 km.

CONSTRUCTION

Diameter: 40 inches


Construction Material: Carbon steel

Lining: The internal walls of the is pipeline are coated with an epoxy lining, to smooth the walls and enhance pipeline efficiency.


Corrosion Protection: A layer of asphalt enamel provides corrosion protection to the external surface of the offshore pipeline. In addition, as a backup, cathodic protection is provided by aluminium 'bracelet' anodes clamped around the pipe.

Stability: A concrete weight coating is added to keep the pipeline stable on the seabed.

MAINTENANCE

Interconnector has contracted the inspection of the sub-sea pipeline to Lloyd’s Register who will manage any remedial or maintenance activities when required.
